[vehement behemoth] Two Minutes, Eighteen Seconds Before the Apocolypse
Her brother’s been in jail since she learned to ride a bike. Once, her parents locked her in her bedroom to prevent her from riding her bike all the way there to see him. They cannot stop her this time. She is at the state prison with its sad and looming gray concrete and imposing barbed wire. She has not left the dusty gravel lot. It’s so hot she feels as though she is breathing pink insulation. With the windows rolled up, she sits inside her car and absorbs the heat. She gets out, ready to meet this part of her past she does not know. Like a suppressed memory. She wonders what else she has been made to forget.
